What Factors Should You Consider When Finding a Recruiter?
Industry Niche - Without working a niche industry, how much expertise can a recruiter really offer?
Specialty - A good recruiter places just a few categories of talent. Work only with recruiters who have a solid track record placing other professionals like you.
History - It takes time to carve out a niche specialty and get to know all the players within it. Side with the recruiter who has devoted an extensive amount of time to the difference makers in your circle.
Extensive Contacts - Getting you exposure to areas where you don't already have it.
Counselor/Advisor - Throughout your career a good recruiter will be there for you on all the issues (i.e. understanding the competition, informing you of compensation standards, giving notice to you current employer, negotiating for you with you prospective employers, etc.).
Confidentiality - Maintaining a candidates confidentiality during a job search must be a priority.
Trust - Besides your family and home, your career is the most precious asset you have. Don't trust it to just any recruiter. Make sure you are dealing with a winner. |
